Lil Nas X's zero nominations at this year's BET Awards are a bit surprising considering that he's been nominated at several other major awards show within the past year, oftentimes dominating categories.
In the case of BET, some tried to dismiss LNX's claims of homophobia by pointing out that Tyler, the Creator and Frank Ocean had been nominated at previous BET Awards.
The young artist responded to Boosie by trolling him, making it evident that he'll continue to fight back against homophobia in Hip-Hop by being his proud, authentic self. It's also only been a matter of months since Boosie Badazz went on a homophobic rant specifically attacking Lil Nas X, calling him slurs and suggesting LNX should take his own life. It was only one year ago that DaBaby made headlines for his homophobic comments at the Rolling Loud music festival (which was defended by multiple other rappers) that many think was prompted by the “Industry Baby” music video release. This isn't the first time LNX has spoken out about homophobia in the industry, specifically the homophobia of his Hip-Hop peers. The clip quickly went viral, with fans and non-fans alike questioning LNX's claims that the nominations snub was about more than just a recognition of his personal accomplishments, but rather the Black community's failure to celebrate the meteoric success of a Black, openly gay artist.
